Common Sense of Selenium Drum

Selenium drum is also called OPC drum. Selenium drum is the core consumable of laser printer. It mainly consists of the OPC drum frame, i.e., the casing, toner, blade and primary charge roller. It is the most critical component of laser printer-photocopier AIO or fax machine. Selenium drum is far smaller in volume than adaptive printers. However, in the whole printing process, 70% technology is about the selenium drum. It can be considered that selenium drum is the heart of the entire laser printer.

What is selenium drum? Is it an ink cartridge?

They are different in the exterior shape, installation position, applicable printer type, consumable and working principle. Selenium drum is used for laser printer that applies toner; ink cartridge is used for ink-jet printer that applies ink. They are different in the exterior shape: The exterior shape of selenium drum is a long strip, and its inside is sealed very tightly; ink cartridge is usually a container that carries ink. They are different in the installation position: Selenium drum is usually installed in the true center of a printer and connects to the printing position; the installation position of ink cartridge is usually nearer from the outside of the printer, which makes replacement more convenient. They are different in the applicable printer type: Selenium drum is applicable to laser printers; ink cartridge is applicable to ink-jet printers. They are different in consumables: Selenium drum printer consumes toner during printing, the printing color will fade and there will be no color finally after toner is used up, and toner needs to be added or a new selenium drum needs to be replaced in this case; ink cartridge printer consumes ink, there will be points, lines and no color finally after ink is used up, and ink needs to be added or a new ink cartridge needs to be replaced in this case. They are different in the working principle: Selenium drum is applicable to laser printers, so its working principle is toner laser imaging; ink cartridge is applicable to ink-jet printers, so its working principle is ink imaging.
